This is a writing sample of a research report I completed regarding prop 68 funding for parks in underserved communities. A Geographic Information System (GIS) map I created in a previous course in GIS is included as an example of how one can identify areas in need of parks (by acreage) and how to identify open space available in such areas for park development.

The purpose of this experiment was to rearrange the benzopinacol molecule by means of dehydration into the ketone benzopinacolone. As the dehydration proceeds, a carbocation forms and a phynol group shifts to form a bond with the carbocation center creating a more stable arrangement.
This experiment uses a photochemical reaction to synthesize benzopinacol from benzophenone.
This experiment uses a replacement reaction to synthesis nerolin (2-methoxynapthalene) from 2-napthol. The nerolin is used as a fixative in perfumes to reduce evaporation of more volatile compounds in a mixture so that the perfume maintains it fragrance over time.
This experiment uses an acid catalyzed dehydration to convert cyclohexanol to cyclohexene.
Steam distillation is a technique used to separate a volatile liquid from less volatile impurities by vaporization. The extract compound will vaporize at a lower boiling point than the impurities contained in the mixture, so the impurities will be left behind.
Extraction is a technique used to separate components from a mixture of compounds. The goal of this extraction was to separate a mixture of unknown quantities of cinnamic acid and naphthalene.
